(OOC: This is a little short story of the life of one (or two) of my characters. It's not very well written and I mostly wrote it for my own amusement)
Sometimes I wonder how I got into this mess.
Sense of responsibility? Patriotism?
She jumped from a roof to another landing without a sound. Her eyes glowed in soft gray light and she took in the surroundings.
Can't be the latter. The regent is a moron.
The people?
She walked crouching to the edge of the roof. She didn't need to look down. In the darkness her vision covered 360 degrees and it was mid-twilight. The darkness wouldn't lift in two months.
Yes. I think it's the people. More than anything it's them.
Yet... am I doing a service to them?
She dropped down from the roof again without sound and sneaked closer to a guard whose back was turned on her. Her hand shot up and struck the guard onto very specific nerve points in his neck. His body stiffened and then he went limp. Before he could fall to the ground she caught him and dragged him to the shadows.
This war...it's so pointless...and yet...
"Hey! Who's th-!?" came a voice from behind her.
She turned around and locked her eyes with the speaker's. It was another guard who had been approaching her with a sword in his hand. The hand holding the sword started shaking and sweat started forming on his forehead. Her eyes seemed deep, the glow engulfing and he could swear he heard wolves. His breathing became labored and he started backing away and then everything went dark.
She pulled her hand away from his neck and let his body fall to to the ground. The damage was done. Door of the nearby building flung open and soldiers with swords ran out surrounding her.
Why do I fight?
She pulled her sword from its scabbard on her back. The blade was slender, black and gray and it seemed to disappear into the darkness.
"Surrender now and we will spare you." one the soldiers said.
I miss the good old days. Sparring with Tejina. My silly rivalry with Setsuya.
She moved so fast her movements seemed like a blur and struck at the first soldier slicing his throat. She leaned to her right and brought the sword with her slashing another soldier's throat. When another soldier tried to attack her from behind she leaned forward balancing one leg and kicking the guard with her other leg breaking his nose.
Everything was so much simpler then. I wonder how they're doing.
She turned around kicking one guard, blocking another one's sword with hers and then jabbed nerve points in his arm. Groaning he dropped the sword and she punched him in the jaw knocking him out.
I don't have time for this.
The darkness of the night seemed to get even darker around her and she moved in faster than before the sword moving like the claws of a hunting predator.
Does Tejina have a family now? I wonder...
She walked away from the now unconscious or dead soldiers and towards a small building. Soft flickering light emanated from the windows of the house. There was no smoke coming from the chute so the light source had to be candles or lantern.
She put her hand on the handle of the door and pushed it down gently. The door was unlocked.
Will she forgive me?
She walked inside. The house had two rooms. The first room was lit by the candles. In the light the glow of her eyes waned revealing a light blue eyes. She spotted a table and walked to it. After a quick look around she started going through the papers on the table.
THUMP
She raised her gaze from the papers and turned around. The sound had come from the other room. She walked to the door and squeezed the handle. With a quick move she opened the door. A boy, no more than 7 or 8, looked at her defiantly. He was wearing ragged clothes and looked like he had been hiding in this building for a while.
"Are you here to rescue me?" the boy asked.
"Sorry, kid. I'm not here for you." she replied moving back to the table and started going through the papers again.
This isn't the right house.
She glanced outside. Lights were being lit up everywhere around the village. Then she glanced at the boy.
I was not sent here for a rescue mission. I need to get those documents.
She looked outside again. She couldn't see to the spot where the dead soldiers were but she could guess that people were gathering there.
For the people, huh?
"What's your name, kid?" she asked not even turning to look at him.
"Nicolas."
"Come along then, Nicolas." she said sighing "I'll take you to the nearest town that isn't under enemy control."
