"You know, Tejina." Alicia started but paused.

"Yes?" The red haired goddess asked.

"You once promised me to tell me about my parents if I wanted to know about them. I'd like to hear about them."

"It's a long story."

"I have time."

The goddess of Magicks and Flame took a deep breath and began her story.

"There existed a version of Earth in one of the most remote parts of the multiverse. It was dominated by humans as the other races, elves and dwarves had gone into hiding. After the humans learned to see parts of the Wave and use magic, the other races returned. The races lived in relative harmony but then mutated humans began appearing. They could see the complete Wave, understand it perfectly...well in their point of view anyway. They called themselves sartans, "Those who bring the light". They started guiding the "lesser races" as they believed. But the Wave has a way to seek balance so another group appeared. They could also see the Wave completely but they used it differently. While sartans used runemagic by singing and dancing and drawing them in the air, this other group tattooed the runes on their skin and drew the seals. They were violent loners. To mock the sartans they called themselves patryns, "Those who return to darkness."

Patryns and sartans hated each other. Both groups tried to get dominance over the other and the world. Sometimes there were hostilities between the two but they rarely ended in deaths. As the patryns started getting more and more influence among the governments, the sartan leadership became more and more scared. They developed a make the world into their own image. For this purpose they created a magical artifact with incredible power. They created the Seventh Gate...

A young sartan man walked through the streets of a small village in England. He was 180 cm tall, handsome like all sartans and had a long hair that was dark at the root but got lighter at the end. He was smiling. Today was his first day at the Seventh Gate project. Of course the whole project was kept top secret. They couldn't risk their enemies, the patryns, knowing about it. He entered a normal looking building made in the 1950s. It was a two story stone building, owned by a law firm although in reality it was owned by the sartan council.

"Good day. I'm Jonas. I'm here to start working on the project." he said to the receptionist, smiling.

"Welcome, Jonas. Right through that door." the receptionist said pointing at a normal doorway which had protection runes around the frame.

Jonas walked to the frame, the runes litting up bright blue as they sensed his presence. Jonas drew the passcode runes he had been taught just the day before. The blue runes in the frame lit up brighter and as he walked through the door, he entered a room that was completely different from the house. The room was a comfortable office with wooden panel walls and few desks. Sartans were working by the desks. Right next to his left was another old oak door.

"Ah, Jonas. Welcome." a sartan, older than him, said and walked to him.

"Samah." Jonas greeted bowing.

"So glad you decided to accept our offer. Many young people have some conflicting ideas. It's nice that some are still willing to follow the council."

"I couldn't refuse this offer. It's an opportunity of a lifetime."

"Indeed." Samah responded. "This way. I'll show you to where you'll work."

He led him through the heavy oak door. They arrived in a huge round chamber made from stone. The room had seven doors and they had just entered through one of them. The ceiling had runes carved into them as did the walls, floor and a large oak table in the center of the room. A woman about the same age as Jonas was standing by the table, her eyes closed and singing runes in a quiet, barely audible, voice.

Both men stopped to wait until she was done. It was rude to interrupt when someone was casting a spell. Then Samah started talking.

"Jonas, this is Elea. She works here at the Seventh Gate too." he said.

"This is the Seventh Gate?" Jonas asked, his eyes widening.

"This is it." Samah confirmed nodding. "Over 100 sartans created this place. Now it's your job to continue the job. You see the table? Your job is to weave power into the Gate and inspect the runestructure. We want to be certain that there are no errors with the design."

Jonas nodded. "Alright. What is this room used for when it's finished?"

"All in good time, Jonas. All in good time." Samah said smiling. "I'll let you get to work now. If you have any questions, you can ask Elea."

He turned and walked out.

"Well...I'm Jonas. Nice to meet you. Elea, was it?" Jonas said turning to the woman.

"Yes." she responded smiling. "It's nice to meet you too."

Jonas walked to the oak table moving his hand over the surface, careful not to touch the wood. He could sense the power in the table. It was great.

"Just put your hand on the table and start channeling spell. The areas without the runes are meant to be touched so that the touch doesn't interfere with the spell." she explained.

"That makes sense. How long have you worked here?" Jonas asked pulling his hand away from the table.

"Just little over a week." she said smiling. Then she put her hand on the table, closed her eyes and started singing runes. Jonas looked at her for a moment and then did the same.

"As time passed, Jonas and Elea became friends." Tejina said. "Then, just two months after Jonas started working at the Seventh Gate project."

"Good morning, Elea." Jonas said as he entered the Gate. As usual, the woman was there before him. And he had even come to the job earlier than before.

"Morning, Jonas." she replied smiling.

Jonas walked to the table and placed his hand on it. "The table has absorbed quite a bit of power." he commented.

"Yes, it has." Elea said smiling. "I think this chamber is almost finished."

Jonas closed his eyes and started singing the runes as usual but this time he stopped almost as soon as he had started. He could feel a presence. Someone or something else was using the Seventh Gate.

~Don't be afraid.~

Jonas pulled back, startled.

"You ok?" Elea asked.

"I felt something. A presence." he said. Because the sartan language was magical, his words conveyed what he had just experienced as images.

Elea blinked and then placed her hand on the table.

~Don't be afraid, Elea. I'm a friend.~

"Who are you?" she whispered.

The answer came in a flood of power, care and love. Elea felt completely at peace there.

"Are you God?" she whispered more in awe than afraid.

~A god, yes.~ came the answer.

Elea lifted her hand from the table and turned to look at Jonas. She didn't say anything but she had "Did that just happen?" look on her face.

Jonas nodded. "What should we do?"

"We have to tell Samah." Elea said.

"The council leader isn't here. He's in London. He's coming to visit next week I think." Jonas said.

"The other team. They're supposed to start their work in couple of hours. We can tell them."
